Muslim hijab: Types
The Muslim hijab has been used since the Middle Ages and has since developed into different styles depending on the culture and region. However, there are basically three types:
* Al Amira: This is basically a two-piece veil made of a large headband or tight hat, usually made of polyester or cotton, along with a tube-like scarf worn over it.
* The Shyla: This is a long and rectangular scarf that is usually worn by women in the Gulf States. It is wrapped over and around the head and then tied or tucked around the shoulders.
* The Khimer: The khimer is usually longer. It consists of a hood-like cloak that usually falls just above the waist. It covers the hair, armpits, neck, and shoulders while keeping the face open.
